Post 3: Gramopoly - The perfect Grammar & Lexical Revision game for the Cambridge Exam Prep classroom

If you’re a Cambridge exam prep teacher like me, you’ve probably spent countless hours trying to make grammar revision feel less like a chore and more like an opportunity.
After years of experimenting, adjusting, and gathering feedback from students, I’ve created Gramopoly – a classroom board game inspired by Monopoly, but redesigned to make grammar revision fun, focused, and exam-relevant.
In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the idea behind the game, why it works, how to play it, and how you can start using it in your own classroom today.
What is Gramopoly?
Gramopoly is a grammar-based board game that helps students consolidate key grammar points and prepare for Cambridge exam tasks (B2 & C1). It draws on the familiar structure of Monopoly, but replaces money and property with points, grammar questions, and strategy.
Instead of buying streets, students build grammar houses by correctly answering questions. Instead of collecting rent, they earn points when others land on their grammar squares. Every move is an opportunity to review tenses, modals, phrasal verbs, comparatives, conditionals, and more – all while reinforcing Use of English exam skills.
Why use Gramopoly?
Gramopoly has numerous benefits and advantages for all B2 and C1 Exam Prep classrooms, such as:
engages reluctant learners through competition and game dynamics
targets and practices real exam content, including Use of English Parts 2, 3 and 4
promotes peer learning through shared answering and scoring
works well in small groups for that close, group or teamwork feeling
encourages repetition and practice without boredom
heightens productivity and engagement among students
I designed the game to be simple to run, flexible to different levels and above all, fun for all students, while still pushing grammar revision and exam practice.
How to get started? Below, you can download everything you need for Gramopoly game. You will need the following to play the game:
The game board for Gramopoly, this includes all the colour-coded blocks, game pieces, game rules, set up instructions and game title. The B2 and C1 boards are slightly different, so make sure that you download the correct one.
Grammar question cards for each grammar and lexical point on the board. There are 15 game cards per a topic, and one answer key. All game cards are collated into one document per a level, B2 and C1.
Exam Task (Use of English Part 2, 3 and 4s) game cards for the stations, jail and traffic jam squares.
