This B2 First & First for Schools Future Tenses Discovery Task is a student-centred, movement-based grammar lesson designed to help learners notice, analyse, and internalise future tense forms and uses through guided discovery.

Instead of presenting rules first, students actively explore authentic-style texts, identify real examples of future tenses, and collaboratively construct meaning, making complex grammar more memorable and exam-ready.

What’s included in this resource:

  • Guided discovery worksheets covering all future tenses (will / going to, present simple for future meaning, future continuous, future perfect simple and future perfect continuous)

  • 4 engaging reading articles rich in contextualised future tense examples

  • Clear answer key

  • Step-by-step teacher guidance for smooth classroom implementation

Methodology & Pedagogical Approach

This resource is grounded in guided discovery learning, a core principle of communicative language teaching (CLT) and cognitive grammar instruction.

Key pedagogical features include:

  • Noticing hypothesis (Students identify and categorise target structures in context, encouraging deeper cognitive processing rather than passive rule memorisation).

  • Inductive grammar learning (Learners infer form–meaning relationships themselves before rules are confirmed as a class, promoting autonomy and long-term retention).

  • Meaning before form (Grammar is introduced through purposeful reading texts, mirroring how language appears in Cambridge exams).

I am sure there is more but this is what we took into consideration when preparing this resource.
